What a fantastic start to Summer Club! It was great to see both old and new children join us from far and wide. We even have a volunteer, Clara, from Austria who has come to join us at Kids Club.
The activities for the first week were focused around science and nature. We had so much fun conducting experiments, going on a bug hunt, a trip to Williamsons Park and Butterfly house, building with spaghetti and marshmallows, trying out different recipes for play-dough, exploring with our senses and finishing the week with den building and a picnic.
On the Monday we conducted lots of experiments which included some chemical reactions! The children particularly enjoyed the lemonade and mint experiment which sent lemonade sky high! We then tried making volcanoes using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. We finished the day with making rainbow patterns using coloured sweets and making shadows.
We then enjoyed a trip to Williamsons park to visit the butterfly house and to do a scavenger hunt. The children enjoyed looking at all the butterflies and animals and a play in the play park before heading back to school. There were some very tired children (and adults) at the end of the day.
At the end of the week children worked really hard at building dens. They even made ‘table and chairs’ from logs that they found. There was some good team building and working together to make some fantastic constructions. Here are just a few more pictures of the week.
We are looking forward to another fun filled week next week where the focus will be all around design.
